P
erhaps EFAA's best measures of success
come from the words of people we've helped through a tough time.
The following letters have come from people we've helped in the
last few months. As you will readily see, the relatively small amount
of financial assistance we provided was linked with large amounts
of compassion and understanding provided by EFAA's caseworkers.
"Dear Christopher,
As a concerned mother I leafed through the newspaper
ads and telephone numbers with a determination to find some financial
help for my 51-year-old son. He was unable to work as he used to
because of clinical depression. Although he was hospitalized at
the VA in Denver for several days, his condition wasn't bad enough
to keep him there. When David's bank account was depleted and he
couldn't pay his apartment rent, it caused his condition to worsen.
As I mentioned, there was a search going on for help. Most places
I called help was delayed or refused.
Finally I decided to call Emergency Family
Assistance and fortunately you were on duty and showed great
concern and care. This time we didn't run into a dead-end
but an open door to help. Thank you for being so willing.
My son's rent was paid for one month; otherwise he maybe would've
ended up on the street. Now, thanks to you, he is settled
in a more reasonable rental on Walnut in a one-bedroom apartment.
Also, many thanks for the food bank privileges
and other things you did which I may not be aware of.
Sincerely, A Concerned Mother."
"Dearest Margie,
I can't begin to put into words the blessing you have been
to myself and my family. I've never met anyone who is as hardworking,
patient, loving, so generous and kind. In this day and age
where so many people have so little time to help others in
need, you seem to devote yourself to this very thing everyday.
In this last year when my family
needed housing it seemed to me that you went above and beyond
the call of duty. While staying at the ECHO House we saw first
hand your immense love and efforts to help those less fortunate.
Even those who make many mistakes and can't seem to choose
the right way have a place to come for help. I know I only
saw a small portion of what you do and although it must be
overwhelming, you seem to make it all work smoothly. I don't
know how often you hear from those you help but I feel impressed
to write to you to let you know just how much we appreciate
what you do. My children were very impressed with Cindy, the
Children's Services Caseworker. She was very helpful and responsible.
I have only let 3 or 4 people take my children anywhere and
it was no small thing that she provided. Her compassion and
generosity hasn't gone unnoticed. I truly feel the need to
thank you both over and over again for your caring, help and
support.
I was so touched by the generosity of the
family that sponsored us at Christmas it still makes me cry.
In many ways I didn't think that there were people in Boulder
that care about the poor. Thank you all. Many, many blessing
to each of you and your families.
Sincerely, A Single Mom"
"Dear Cindy and EFAA Staff
We can't tell you enough how we appreciate your generosity
and the generosity of the Bronco owner for donating the car
to us. It enables us to stay in the Boulder area. Jim gets
to work, and I'm teaching kids in Denver this summer thanks
to our Bronco transportation!
Thank you! Thank you! Jim and Sara"
"Dear EFAA,
I want to take this time to personally thank you for
your recent involvement with me. I am a single mother of a
beautiful four-year-old girl, full time student and employee.
During last week I met with John concerning a major dilemma
in my life. My child's daycare was in jeopardy due to the
past due balance that had accumulated over the past several
months. I was very thrilled to hear that EFAA was able to
provide help through the special needs fund to help correct
this situation. I greatly appreciate your contribution and
I am relieved that my child will be able to continue in her
day care program. I am currently working very hard to make
sure this situation does not repeat itself.
Once again, thank you very much for your kind support.
Sincerely, A Working Single Mom"
